"They did not blame him for what had happened; on the contrary, both thanked him for returning Cedric's body to them. Mr Diggory sobbed through most of the interview. Mrs. Diggory's grief seemed to be beyond tears."
— She and her husband during their meeting with Harry after her son's death.[src]

Mrs. Diggory is the wife of Amos Diggory and the mother of Cedric Diggory.

Biography

Early life/Pre-Tournament

She was born sometime in or before 1960[1] to a wizarding family of unknown blood status[2]. Sometime in her life she married Amos Diggory[3], and had a son in 1977[3]. Said son went to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, and was sorted into Hufflepuff House[3]. Seeing how her son would be at school most of the year and her husband would be at work during the same time, she probably spent a lot of time alone.

Triwizard Tournament

Before the Task

"Mr. Diggory looked as though he was going to say something angry, but his wife laid a hand on his arm, and he merely shrugged and turned away."
— She comforts her husband.[src]

Mrs. Diggory came to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in the 1994-1995 school year to watch the Third Task of the Triwizard Tournament[3]. When her husband began to argue with Molly Weasley, she managed to calm him simply by putting her hand on his arm, and allowed the Weasleys to walk peacefully away with Harry, whom Amos had been arguing about[3].

After the Task

"He suffered very little, then. And after all, Amos... he died just when he'd won the Tournament. He must have been happy."
— Mrs. Diggory attempting to consolidate herself after her son's death.[src]

After the task, upon hearing of her son's death, she visited Harry Potter in the hospital wing[3]. She then thanked Harry for bringing Cedric's body back, though when he offered her his winnings, she declined[3].

Personality and traits

Harry: "You take this. It should've been Cedric's, he got there first, you take it-"
Mrs. Diggory: "Oh, no, it's yours, dear, we couldn't...you keep it."
— Harry arguing with Mrs. Diggory over who should get the Triwizard winnings.[src]

She seemed to be a kind, amicable person, although we only see and hear from her briefly. She may have passed some of her better characteristics to her son, who is also described as kind and caring.

Behind the scenes

  • Her husband's personality in the film seems to more closely match her personality than his own book counterpart.
  • Her first name and physical appearance are unknown.
