"Are you a wizard, or what?"
The title of this article is conjectural. Although it is based on canonical information, the actual name is a conjecture and may be supplanted at any time by additional information released from canonical sources. If this occurs, please move this page to the appropriate title. |
- "He suffered very little then. And after all, Amos... he died just when he'd won the tournament. He must have been happy. You [Harry] look after yourself, now."
- — Mrs Diggory[src]
Mrs Diggory (fl. 1977-1995) was the wife of Amos Diggory and the mother of Cedric.
Biography
Early life
Mrs Diggory was a witch. She married Amos Diggory,[1] and had a son, Cedric, in 1977.[1] Cedric went to attend Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and was Sorted into Hufflepuff House.[1]
Triwizard Tournament
Before the Task
- "Mr Diggory looked as though he was going to say something angry, but his wife laid a hand on his arm, and he merely shrugged and turned away."
- — She comforts her husband.[src]
Mrs Diggory came to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in the 1994-1995 school year to watch the Third Task of the Triwizard Tournament, in which her son was participating.[1] When her husband began to argue with Molly Weasley, she managed to calm him simply by putting her hand on his arm, and allowed the Weasleys to walk peacefully away with Harry, whom Amos had been arguing about.[1]
After the Task
- "They did not blame him for what had happened; on the contrary, both thanked him for returning Cedric's body to them. Mr Diggory sobbed through most of the interview. Mrs Diggory's grief seemed to be beyond tears."
- — Mr and Mrs Diggory with Harry after Cedric's death[src]
After the task, upon hearing of her son's death, she visited Harry Potter in the hospital wing.[1] She then thanked Harry for bringing Cedric's body back, though when he offered her his Tournament winnings, she declined.[1]
Personality and traits
- Harry: "You take this. It should've been Cedric's, he got there first, you take it-"
- Mrs Diggory: "Oh, no, it's yours, dear, we couldn't... you keep it."
- — Harry arguing with Mrs Diggory over who should get the Triwizard winnings.[src]
She seemed to be a kind, amicable person, although we only see and hear from her briefly. She may have passed some of her better characteristics to her son, who is also described as kind and caring.
Behind the scenes
- Mrs Diggory does not make an appearance in the film adaptation of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. Her husband's personality in the film seems to more closely match her personality than his own book counterpart.
