What constitutes "Actors" on HPW[]

Hi there. So, I think, the obvious is that the ones who in fact acted in official productions of the Wizarding World (franchise), no matter how small of a role, are counted as actors (actresses). Some of these actors happened to be multitalented, and are also professionally known to be involved in other fields. I think because {{Actor infobox}} specified "Role in the Harry Potter Series", contributors here had the sense to not jam pack all their other non-acting achievements the way they would identify them as "Actors". For example, we don't see Kenneth Branagh categorized under Category:Directors (real-world), Category:Screenwriters (real-world), or Category:Producers (real-world), unless he does one day become one of those for HP related projects.

Hope we are on the same page so far. So, Category:Voice actors (real-world) is a subCAT of this CAT, which is understandable, being a specific form of actors. I've noticed that previous there wasn't a CAT for narrators; at the time, due to my very narrow point-of-view, I hadn't been certain if we had enough of those that'd need a CAT. I still hadn't been sure if there was a need back in 2018, when more names were announced to be narrators. It was by the time I finally started compiling Harry Potter At Home that I realized, okay, we really do have quite a few of those.

At first I followed the established practice of adding CAT "Voice actors (real-world)" when updating content to articles of involved individuals, but as I got to PSch6 that featured an ensemble cast, it became clear that those people doing the specific roles are the real voice actors, and there's a distinction between it and narrators, hence the creation of Category:Narrators (real-world), which I then added to applicable articles. Some individuals are in fact actors first (Noma Dumezweni), or that and having additionally done voice acting for video games (Bonnie Wright), so they'd have 2 if not all 3 CATs. Some of them, really have just ever been narrators, so it's this only CAT for those people.

I thought it was pretty straightforward. Recently I noticed this CAT "Actors (real-world)" added to the ones that were only involved as narrators:

While I'm not sure if there are more, for those at least, I don't quite agree with the treatment. Them also being actors professionally isn't so relevant since that's not how they got involved with the franchise? I find the categorization very misleading; imagine Branagh found in CAT "Directors (real-world)" and he directed no WW-related films.

Since it's not just one article affected, figured I'd address my concern to cover all. It's, as usual, quite lengthy, but I provided the background info because I think it's necessary to understand why those individuals used to be under CAT "Voice actors (real-world)" (which was under CAT "Actors (real-world)"), and how it was "okay" back then, but not as appropriate now.

I'd like to hear thoughts on the matter, thanks! If there's none for like a month, I'd be reverting those edits. --Sammm✦✧(talk) 04:11, 22 November 2021 (UTC)

I had the understanding that people should only be put in categories according to what they contributed to Harry Potter. So if they only contributed through narration, they wouldn't get put in the "Actors" CAT because they didn't act in a Harry Potter project. I think people would expect to see a connection to Harry Potter in that capacity when looking through OOU categories like that. Like Sam pointed out, people like Kenneth Branagh didn't get put in the "Producers" category for example because he didn't produce anything for Harry Potter.
So I think these pages should be taken out of the category because they only narrated for Harry Potter. The same logic should then be applied to every other OOU category which could have the same thing happening. If they haven't done it for Harry Potter, they shouldn't be in the category. - Kates39 (talk) 11:05, 22 November 2021 (UTC)
