This indicates that the Ministry of Magic has jurisdiction over the United Kingdom and over Ireland, a jurisdiction that has not existed in the Muggle world since the early 20th century. Thus, in the terms of this category's title, it is more appropriate to categorize Great Britain (England, Scotland and Wales) and Ireland together as the British Isles in terms of referring to them as a nation, since despite their political separation in the Muggle world, they are under one governance in the magical world. However the association of Ireland with Britain as part of the British Isles is controversial and roundly rejected in Muggle Ireland itself.
