The filing cabinet of the Hogwarts caretaker was used mainly for recording the wrongdoing of students across all four houses.[1]

After each drawer fills up, the files are moved into separate boxes; James Potter and Sirius Black, and occasionally their friends Peter Pettigrew and Remus Lupin, took up boxes one thousand and twelve to one thousand and fifty-six.[1]

Fred and George Weasley had an entire drawer to themselves in this cabinet, and in their first year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry stole the Marauder's Map from one of the drawers in this cabinet.

In Harry Potter's sixth year, he was charged with the responsibility of rewriting the information on each file where the ink had grown faint or the cards had suffered damage from mice.[1]
