Bruno Schmidt was a German wizard who, according to Newt Scamander in his 1927 book Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, was the last person known to have been attacked by an Erkling. As a six-year-old child, he managed to kill the Erkling who attacked him, hitting it over the head with his father's Collapsible Cauldron.

Etymology

The name "Bruno" is derived from the Germanic element brun meaning "brown". Saint Bruno of Cologne was a German monk of the 11th century who founded the Carthusian Order. Schmidt is a common German occupational surname derived from the German word "schmied" meaning "blacksmith" and/or "metalworker". This surname is the German equivalent of "Smith" in the English-speaking world.
