The word "''brackium''" is derived from [[Latin]] "''bracchium''" meaning "''forearm''" or "''arm''"<ref name="ety1">See [http://translate.google.ca/#la/en/bracchium this translation]</ref>; "''emendo''" is a Latin word meaning "''mend''" or "''fix''". "''Brackium''" coming from the Latin "Bracchium", meaning forearm. "''Emendo''", coming from the Latin, could mean to free of faults/to correct, but also to erase or to remove (probably the latter meaning, in this case). The Danish translation of the spell is "''Brækjern Emendo''". A brækjern is a crowbar.

— Description of this spell's effects.[src]

Brackium Emendo[1] is the incantation of a charm that can be used to heal broken bones[2]. If executed improperly, as was done by Gilderoy Lockhart in September of 1992, the targeted bones will be removed rather than fixed[2]. If such an incident occurs, Skele-Gro can be used to re-grow said bones[2].

Etymology

The word "brackium" is derived from Latin "bracchium" meaning "forearm" or "arm"[3]; "emendo" is a Latin word meaning "mend" or "fix". Altogether, the incantation would read "mend the forearm".

Behind the scenes

  • In certain translations of the GBC version of Chamber of Secrets, Ossio Dispersimus is used instead.
