Blowfly is a common name for members of Calliphoridae, a family of flies. Dead blowflies can be used as a potion ingredient[1] and are fed to the Giant Purple Toads at the Magical Menagerie.[2] When trying to persuade Professor Severus Snape to attend Rubeus Hagrid's suprise birthday party in 1984 by gifting him potion ingredients, Jacob's sibling found dead blowflies in the Artefact Room at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry with help from Ben Copper and Penny Haywood.[3]
