The sting of the Billywig caused giddiness, followed by floating.[3][4] Dried billywig stings were used as ingredients in multiple potions,[3] including the Antidote to Uncommon Poisons[4] and the Wideye Potion.[1] It was also rumoured to be an ingredient in the popular sweet Fizzing Whizzbees.[3] The stings produced a slime, which was also used in potion-making.[6][7]
There existed an antidote to Billywig stings that would relieve the effects of being stung by one.[5]
