The Big Bang was the leading scientific model of how the universe was formed.[1] According to this theory, all the matter that would make up the universe was once compressed into an infinitely small point, and suddenly exploded outward.[1]

Stephen Hawking wrote about the Big Bang in his book A Brief History of Time.[2]
