"Then the little golden pot danced with delight-hoppitty hoppitty hop!-on its tiny rosy toes! Wee Willykins had cured all the dollie of their poorly tum-tums, and the little poot was so happy it filled up with sweeties for Wee Willykins and the dollies!"
— An extract of Beatrix Bloxam's version of The Wizard and the Hopping Pot in The Toadstool Tales

Beatrix Bloxam was a Witch. She was an author and wrote the The Toadstool Tales, which are a series of children's books adapting stories such as The Tales of Beedle the Bard into sanitized and soppy versions. They were banned, presumably by the Ministry of Magic, because the stories were found to cause nausea and vomiting in the readers. According to a footnote in The Tales of Beedle the Bard quoting her diary, she heard the story of The Warlock's Hairy Heart by listening at a keyhole while her aunt told the story to her older cousins, as well as a tale of her uncle Nobby, the local hag and a sack of Bouncing Bulbs. She was 'traumatized and in bed for a week.' For a while she also suffered from sleepwalking, until her father placed a Sticking Charm on her bedroom door when Beatrix went to bed.

Behind the scenes

  • Beatrix Bloxam's first name may have been chosen as a reference to Beatrix Potter, who wrote several classic children's books, including The Tale of Peter Rabbit. The title "Toadstool Tales" may also refer to the fact that, in addition to being an author, Beatrix Potter was a mycologist (a person who studies fungi).
  • Originally, Bloxam's date of death was given as 1810 on her Famous Wizard Card; however, when taken with a birthdate of 1794, it would have made her only sixteen years old at the time of her death. To further confuse the issue, the image on her card portrayed an elderly lady. However, in The Tales of Beedle the Bard, her year of death is listed a century later, as 1910, correcting this mistake.
