Behind the scenes
- Newt Scamander did not mention Basilisk horns in the Basilisk entry in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. It's unknown if he had no knowledge of it or if he choose not to mention this little detail in his short description.
- Horned serpents appear as well in (north-western) European mythology. Its best-known image comes from Romano-Celtic Gaul deity Cernunnos, depicted as horned/antlered and is always paired with snakes usually with ram horns, usually feeding from its hands. This image parallels Cernunnos as Slytherin, a "deity" of pure-blood supremacy; and the horned snake as either his attendant, or the basilisk that sourced his personalised wand core.
