Mrs. Crouch was the wife of Barty Crouch Sr and mother of Barty Crouch, Jr. She participated in one of the only escapes from Azkaban in the prison's history.
Mrs. Crouch was a short, wispy witch who had to suffer the terrible and sad experience of watching her husband renounce their son Barty and condemn him to Azkaban for his activities as a Death Eater, including participation in the torture of Aurors Alice and Frank Longbottom. She was ill and dying at the time, but she attended her son's trial, where she sat sobbing. After the sentence was passed, she collapsed in shock and grief of what had happened.
In the last few weeks of her life, Mrs. Crouch convinced her husband to allow her to trade places with her son in the wizard prison. Mother and son drank Polyjuice Potion to take each other's appearance, and she went to Azkaban while Barty Jr. went to live in hiding with the help of their House-elf Winky. Mrs. Crouch died shortly thereafter in Azkaban and was buried by the Dementors outside the walls under her son's name and appearance.
