- "Lestrange, I want that essay on my desk by tomorrow or it's detention. Same goes for you, Avery."
- — Horace Slughorn to Avery.[src]
Avery (born c. 1926) was a wizard and a Slytherin student at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. He was a member of Tom Riddle's gang when they attended Hogwarts, a member of the Slug Club and one of the earliest Death Eaters. He was possibly the father of Avery. He fought in the First and possibly the Second Wizarding War, although it is possible that he was deceased before the events of the Second Wizarding War. If not, he possibly fought at the Battle of Hogwarts and was presumably killed or imprisoned in Azkaban after Voldemort's final defeat.
Biography
Early Life
Avery graduated at Hogwarts at the same time with Tom Riddle, and it is possible that he may have been sorted into Slytherin house. He became a member of Riddle's gang. Avery was present in the same Slug Club meeting in 1944 or 1945 as Tom Riddle.[3] After Hogwarts, Avery became one of the first Death Eaters of Lord Voldemort.
First Wizarding War
Avery likely fought in the First Wizarding War along with other Death Eaters, and he is presumed to be the father of the a younger Death Eater of the same surname who attended Hogwarts at the same time as Severus Snape. After Voldemort's first downfall, Avery was presumably killed, imprisoned or defected. It is possible that Avery was one of the many Death Eaters who didn't search for Voldemort after his downfall.
Second Wizarding War
It is unknown if Avery was still alive during the Second Wizarding War. It is possible that he was deceased before the start of the war, but, if he did not, it is possible that he fought in several battles, including the Battle of Hogwarts.
Post-War
After Voldemort's final defeat, Avery was presumably killed or imprisoned in Azkaban.
Behind the scenes
- It is possible that Avery was deceased before the Second Wizarding War, but this has not been confirmed. If he survived, he would have been around seventy years old when Voldemort returned to power.
