"The first edition of Fantastic Beasts was commissioned back in 1918 by Mr Augustus Worme of Obscurus Books, who was kind enough to ask me whether I would consider writing an authoritative compendium of magical creatures for his publishing house."
Newton Scamander, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them[src]

Augustus Worme was a wizard who worked for the publisher Obscurus Books. In 1918, he commissioned a young Newt Scamander to write Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. The first edition of the book was published in 1927, and was a world-wide bestseller.[2]

Etymology[]

The name "Augustus" means "great" or "venerable", derived from Latin augere "to increase". Augustus was the title given to Octavian, the first Roman emperor. He was the adopted son of Julius Caesar who rose to power through a combination of military skill and political prowess. This was also the name of three kings of Poland.
