Astronomy department

The Astronomy department is a group of professors who teach Astronomy at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The number of teachers in the department is unknown, although Professor Aurora Sinistra is a known member. Their residence is probably the Astronomy Tower, where their lessons are taught and where Sinistra teaches.

In 1991, a member of the department, probably Professor Sinistra, became the Astronomy teacher of Harry Potter and his classmates. Their lessons required them to gaze at the stars at midnight on Wednesday and create graphs and maps based on their studies.

In 1995, the Astronomy department was inspected by Dolores Umbridge, the Hogwarts High Inquisitor and Defence Against the Dark Arts Professor. They apparently passed, as no firing or suspension was mentioned.

In 1997, the school was taken over by Lord Voldemort's Death Eaters and the Astronomy department was forced under their rule. By the end of 1997, the Death Eaters were defeated and the school returned to normal.
