Appleby is a small village in North Lincolnshire, England. It lies about 5 km to the north-east of Scunthorpe. Appleby population in the 2001 census returns is shown as 597.[1]

This may possibly be the home of the Quidditch team, the Appleby Arrows, although the town of Appleby-in-Westmorland, which now lies in western Cumbria, is a more likely candidate. Their main rivals in the British and Irish Quidditch League, are called the Wimbourne Wasps. The Wasps are partially more famous, because of their former Beater, Ludo Bagman, who is currently the head of the Department of Magical Games and Sports at the British Ministry of Magic. However, like the Wasps, the Arrows have never made it to the Quidditch World Cup, although Wimbourne has won the League Cup eighteen times, and been semi-finalists in the European Cup twice.

Appleby was founded sometime prior to 1612. That was the year that the Arrows were founded. Most Appleby fans and wizards living in that area all agree that the Arrow's most glorius hour, was of their 1932 defeat of the Vratsa Vultures in a sixteen-day match, earning the European Cup for the only known time.
