Apple (bionomial name Malus domestica) trees are any trees of the species Malus domestica in the rose family (Rosaceae).[3]
Description[]
Apple trees provided both fruit and wand wood.[2]
The Earl of Paunchley who terrorised the village of Poppleton in England in the 1480s grew several apple trees on the grounds of castle, which he forbid village children to eat from, unless they wished to be beaten.[1]
Wandlore[]
Applewood wands were not made in great numbers. They were powerful and best suited to an owner of high aims and ideals, as this wood mixed poorly with Dark Arts. It was said that the possessor of an apple wand would be well-loved and long-lived, an assertion supported by the fact that Garrick Ollivander often met customers of great personal charm to find their perfect match in an applewood wand.[2]
An unusual ability to converse with other magical beings in their native tongues was often found among apple wand owners, who included the celebrated author of Merpeople: A Comprehensive Guide to Their Language and Customs, Dylan Marwood.[2]
Known apple wands[]
- Ollivander family's heirloom wand[4]
- Dylan Marwood's wand[2]
- A dragon heartstring core wand made by Garrick Ollivander[5]
Behind the scenes[]
- The claim that owners of apple wands will be long-lived may be inspired by several mythologies and legends where apples are a source of immortality (Greek and Norse mythology being two examples).
