This inn was the place, where Antioch Peverell, one of the three Peverell brothers, lodged sometime between 1214 and 1291. It is situated somewhere in England, most likely in the "distant village" where Peverell's enemy lived.
History
According to The Tale of the Three Brothers, after receiving the Elder Wand from Death himself, Antioch travelled to a distant village, where he killed a wizard with whom he had once quarrelled. He then went to this inn to drink some wine and boast loudly of the powerful wand that he had "snatched from Death himself". When he returned to his room, "wine-sodden", he fell asleep on his bed. Another wizard, who had heard Peverell boasting, seized the opportunity and crept upon Antioch, stealing his wand and sliting his throat for good measure.
Behind the scenes
- The concept artwork for the Tale of the Three Brothers scene in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 seems to have based this tavern's quarters as the rooms in the Leaky Cauldron, as featured in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (film). However, it is impossible it was the same place: for one, the Leaky Cauldron was built in the fifteenth century, while the Peverell brothers lived in the thirteenth century; also, Antioch Peverell is described, according to legend, to have travelled to a "distant village", which London is hardly.
