- Harry Potter: "...you don't need me- you could use Legilimency...or Veritaserum..."
- Albus Dumbledore: "Professor Slughorn is an extremely able wizard who will be expecting both. He is much more accomplished at Occlumency than poor Morfin Gaunt, and I would be astonished if he has not carried an antidote to Veritaserum with him ever since I coerced him into giving me this travesty of a recollection."
- — Albus Dumbledore and Harry Potter discussing ways of getting Horace Slughorn to give them the true memory[src]
The antidote to Veritaserum was a potion which counteracted the effects of Veritaserum, a powerful truth serum.[1][2]
History
- "For today's lesson, we will brew the antidote to Veritaserum. As you should know, Veritaserum is the most powerful truth potion in the wizarding world. Its antidote isn't nearly as complex, so there will be no excuse for anything short of perfection."
- — Professor Snape teaching his seventh-year students how to brew this potion[src]
During the 1990–1991 school year at Hogwarts, Professor Severus Snape taught his seventh-year students how to brew the antidote to Veritaserum in Potions.[2]
Horace Slughorn was said to have kept one with him during the 1996–1997 school year at Hogwarts, ever since Albus Dumbledore tried to persuade him to divulge a memory that Slughorn was too ashamed to give.[1]
Slughorn was known to be a very skilled Occlumens,[1] which would allow him to resist the effects of Veritaserum.[3] Therefore, using this antidote on him would seem redundant.
