"They had been given special, new quills for the exams, which had been bewitched with an Anti-Cheating spell."
First-years being given these quills for their exams[src]

The Anti-Cheating Spell,[2] also known as the Anti-Cheating Charm,[3] (incantation unknown) was a charm[1][2][3] that prevented a person from cheating on a test or exam.[2][3]

History

"Now, I must warn you that the most stringent Anti-Cheating Charms have been applied to your examination papers."
Minerva McGonagall to fifth-year students before the start of their O.W.L. exams[src]

These spells were used at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry on writing quills and parchment to prevent students from cheating during their final exams, as well as their O.W.L.s and N.E.W.T.s.[2][3] They could be circumvented with Cribbing Spells.[4]

Several of the student records stored in the Records Room at Hogwarts by the 21st century had been subjected to an Anti-Cheating Spell to prevent them from being tampered with. As of July 13, 2020, the Headmistress of the day, Minerva McGonagall, gave Calamity Investigators of the Statute of Secrecy Task Force permission to visit the Records Room to look over the student file on Grim Fawley, the wizard thought to be behind the Calamity. Once there, they found that whilst the material was not very useful, curiously enough, the part of Fawley's records that had not been magically secured with the spell had been altered, prompting them to restore them.[5]
