An Appraisal of Magical Education in Europe is a book about Wizarding schools in Europe. Prior to 1994, Hermione Granger had read it and learned of the Durmstrang Institute's horrible reputation and of their emphasis on Dark Magic.^[1] It is also mentioned to have information about Beauxbatons Academy of Magic.^[2]

In 1997, Hermione considered this book as she was sorting supplies for their mission to find Voldemort's Horcruxes. It is not specified if it was one of the books she decided to bring with them.^[3] It is, however, unlikely; as it held no real use for Hermione, Harry and Ron on their mission which was set by Dumbledore.
