|Albus Dumbledore's letter to the Gringotts Head Goblin|
|Date of writing|
This letter was written by Albus Dumbledore sometime prior to 31 July, 1991 to the Head Goblin of Gringotts Wizarding Bank. The letter presumably requested permission to transfer the Philosopher's Stone from Vault 713 to Hogwarts Castle, as a greater degree of security than even the bank's vaults provided was deemed necessary by Dumbledore. This letter was delivered to the Head Goblin personally by Rubeus Hagrid on 31 July, 1991, at the same time he took Harry Potter to the bank to withdraw money from his parent's vault. The Head Goblin carefully reviewed this letter and, deeming it sufficient, approved Griphook to escort Hagrid and Harry to Vault 713.
