Ague is a term that refers to an illness (such as malaria) characterised by alternating fits of fever, chills, and sweating.[1]

Consuming whole ashwinder eggs was a known magical treatment for ague.[2]

In the 12th century, Muggles in the village of Stinchcombe, Gloucestershire regularly went to their neighbour Linfred (who, unbeknownst to them, was a wizard) seeking remedies for the ailments that afflicted them.[3] He readily brewed potions for them, including cures for pox and ague.[3]
