Harry Potter sitting in the chair

"Harry dropped his gaze to the chair in the center of the room, the arms of which were covered in chains. He had seen those chains spring to life and bind whoever sat between them."
—Harry observes the chair during his hearing.[src]

This was a special chair that was in the center of a dais at Courtroom Ten, where the accused would sit during a trial before the Council of Magical Law and in later years the Wizengamot, a section of the Ministry of Magic. The chair had magical chains that would bind its occupant, if the occupant was accused of serious criminal charges. They did not bind Harry Potter during his disciplinary hearing, but did clink threateningly when he sat down.[1] If more than one are accused, more than one chair will be set up. It was later moved to a courtroom used by the Muggle-Born Registration Commission to interogate Muggle-borns.[2]
