This was a special chair that was in the center of a dais at Courtroom Ten, where the accused would sit during a trial before the Wizengamot, a section of the Ministry of Magic. The chair had magical chains that would bind its occupant, if the occupant was accused of serious criminal charges. They did not bind Harry Potter during his disciplinary hearing, but did clink threateningly when he sat down.
Behind the scenes
- In the film adaptation of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, during Igor Karkaroff's trial, the chair is replaced by a spiked cage. In film adaptation of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, a regular wooden chair (without any visible chains) is in its place.
