- "Harry dropped his gaze to the chair in the centre of the room, the arms of which were covered in chains. He had seen those chains spring to life and bind whoever sat between them."

The Wizengamot Accusation Chair[4] was a special magical chair that was in the centre of a dais at Courtroom Ten, where the accused would sit during a trial before the Council of Magical Law and in later years the Wizengamot, a section of the Ministry of Magic.[3][1][2]
Description[]
The chair had magical chains that would bind its occupant, if the occupant was accused of having committed serious criminal acts.[3] They did not bind Harry Potter during his disciplinary hearing, but did clink threateningly when he sat down.[1] If more than one were accused, more than one chair would be set up.
It was later moved to a courtroom in 1997, and used by the Muggle-Born Registration Commission to interrogate Muggle-borns, such as Mary Cattermole. The chains were immune to the Severing Charm, but could be forced to withdraw back into the arms of the chair with the Revulsion Jinx.[2]
Behind the scenes[]
- In the film adaptation of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, during Igor Karkaroff's trial, the chair is replaced by a spiked cage.
- In film adaptation of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, a regular wooden chair (without any visible chains) is in its place. The chair used in the first film adaption of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows had no chains either, as it was the same chair.
