Added by Oread- "Harry dropped his gaze to the chair in the centre of the room, the arms of which were covered in chains. He had seen those chains spring to life and bind whoever sat between them."
- —Harry observes the chair during his hearing.[src]
This was a special chair that was in the centre of a dais at Courtroom Ten, where the accused would sit during a trial before the Council of Magical Law and in later years the Wizengamot, a section of the Ministry of Magic. The chair had magical chains that would bind its occupant, if the occupant was accused of serious criminal charges. They did not bind Harry Potter during his disciplinary hearing, but did clink threateningly when he sat down.[1] If more than one are accused, more than one chair will be set up. It was later moved to a courtroom used by the Muggle-Born Registration Commission to interogate Muggle-borns.[2]

Edit
- In the film adaptation of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, during Igor Karkaroff's trial, the chair is replaced by a spiked cage.
- In film adaptation of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, a regular wooden chair (without any visible chains) is in its place. The chair used in the first film adaption of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows had no chains either, as it was the same chair.
