Acacia (genus Acacia) is a genus of shrubs and trees belonging to the subfamily Mimosoideae of the family Fabaceae, first described in Africa. The leaves of acacias are compound pinnate in general, the small flowers have five very small petals, almost hidden by the long stamens. The plants often bear spines, especially those species growing in arid regions.[1]

Wandlore

A very unusual wand wood, Garrick Ollivander found that it creates tricky wands that often refuse to produce magic for anyone other than their rightful owner, they also withheld their best effects from all but the most gifted witches and wizards. This sensitivity renders them difficult to place, as such, Ollivander only kept a small supply of acacia wands in his shop for those witches or wizards of sufficient subtlety.

Acacia is not suited to what is commonly known as "bangs-and-smells magic". When well-matched, an acacia wand matches any for power, though it is often underrated due to the peculiarity of its temperament.[2]

Known acacia wand owners

Behind the scenes

  • The choice of Jacob's sibling's first wand is determined by the player's answer to Ollivander's question of how they felt about their brother's expulsion and subsequent disappearance. If they reply they felt bad for Jacob, Ollivander will give them a wand made of Acacia with a core of unicorn hair.[3]
