- James Potter, Sirius Black and Peter Pettigrew become Animagi, thus officially naming themselves the Marauders, along with Remus Lupin.

- James Potter saves Severus Snape from a practical joke which would have resulted in his death. Snape now owes James a life-debt.
- Mundungus Fletcher is banned from the Hog's Head.
