  14. According to J.K. Rowling at the Edinburgh Book Festival (J.K. Rowling at the Edinburgh Book Festival (15 August, 2004) source), headmasters only get their portrait hung in the office if they die holding the title of headmaster. As Dippet's portrait was shown hanging in the office in the Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets film and Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, this means that he must have died in office. As Dumbledore became headmaster in 1956 with Dippet as his predecessor, this would imply that Dippet died that year.
