Cornelius Oswald Fudge was the Minister for Magic from 1990 to 1996. Despite being a persuasive, confident and intelligent individual, he often valued bureaucracy over pragmatism. He was dismissed due to his unwillingness to believe that Lord Voldemort had returned. He was replaced by Rufus Scrimgeour, but stayed in an advisory capacity.

• May 24, 2008: Robert Knox, who was cast in the role of Marcus Belby in the upcoming film adaption of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, was tragically killed when he was stabbed outside of a pub in Sidcup, England.[3][4]

The Battle of the Department of Mysteries was the first major conflict of the Second Wizarding War between the Order of the Phoenix and the Death Eaters. It took place on June 17, 1996, after Lord Voldemort lured Harry Potter and five of his fellow Dumbledore's Army members to the Department of Mysteries. It resulted in Voldemort’s return being made public and the Ministry of Magic finally taking action.
